Commissions

Commissions of all types, whether private or commercial are exciting and always result in something special and personal.

I have extensive experience in working to commission- including portraiture, illustration and design.

All commissions begin with a meeting where you, the client look at different scales of artwork and choose a preferred scale and level of detail. I have created both large artworks (300x100cm of twenty-five people) and smaller pieces. We will discuss the subject of the commission; this helps me understand why the piece is being done and what the client would like the work to portray. At this stage I give an estimated cost of the work. Here we make an appointment to meet to photograph for the commission. I usually make a visit to the home where we discuss the work and the subject matter. I then take a series of photographs to work from to carry out the finished piece. Clients are also invited to submit their own photographs or fabrics if there are elements that they would like to be included in the final artwork. A detailed breakdown of costs and a final quote is then supplied to the client.

I then work on the pen line drawing that forms the linear screen-print for the textile artwork. Followed by fabric selection, appliqué, screen-print and hand-stitch. The client is welcome to visit the studio at any stage to discuss the progress of their commission. However, some people are happy to place it in my hands and leave the first viewing of the artwork until it arrives at their home.

Each commission is totally unique and I am happy to work in any way to meet the client's hopes and expectations of the experience. It is a very enjoyable process for both myself and the client. If this is something that you are interested in please have a look through the commission gallery and call or email to discuss this further.
