From the V and A website, ‘Initially launched to coincide with the opening of the new V&A Shop in March 2006, the Cherry on the Cake collections celebrate the link between the Museum’s collections and the contemporary designs they continue to inspire, with a series of contemporary designers each being commissioned to produce a Cherry on the Cake. The aim is to bring together designers, ideas and products in a collection of exclusive, special editions which match the diversity, originality and quality of the V&A itself.‘
I was lucky to have been part of this launch collection, I created 20 artworks, all of the same image, using a collection of William Morris fabrics from The V and A’s print collection. Each of the artworks had a stitched number somewhere on the piece. To gather the images I spent the day in the Museum observing and photographing. On the train I was sitting opposite two friends, when I got to the Museum, they were there so we had a chat and I took their photograph. You can also see them in the series of line drawings I completed to choose from.
