I was commissioned by silversmith Ndidi Ekubia to create a portrait of her at work in her London studio. This was very exciting as I had really wanted to capture artists at work in their studio. The aim of this piece was to document it it literally, capture everything as it was, down to the smallest details. I visited Ndidi in her studio and took a number of photographs in the form of a collage. On return to my studio I pieced the puzzle of photographs together and began drawing the scene. The final image used around 25 photographs as reference. I think that you get a real sense of her working environment. For the textile stage of the piece, I focused on earthy colours but then have accents of bright colours to reference Ndidi’s personality. The dimensions of the final stretched artwork are 88x71cm.
