2nd to 7th October 2007
The Ben Kelly Pavillion, Somerset House, London
For the second year running, selected from over 900 applicants, I was one of the 320 designer-makers to exhibit at Origin: The London Craft Fair. The Crafts Council launched Origin in 2006 with an event that attracted 22,000 visitors and established itself as the most prestigious selling event for contemporary craft in the UK.
‘Origin 2007 brought together over 320 makers to the Ben Kelly designed pavilion. Disciplines included glass, ceramics, jewellery, metal, furniture, paper, basketry, wood and textiles. Established makers and a new crop of rising stars showcased work, ranging from £20 to £20,000, which included embroidered urban vignettes, flock embossed ceramics and industrially smashed glass panels.‘
“Origin provides a truly interactive experience of contemporary craft and an opportunity to learn more about the work, its origins and how to commission one-off pieces. Origin 2006 was a huge success and much of the positive feedback focussed on the unique experience of meeting face- to-face the makers of some of the most influential and innovative contemporary crafts currently being produced in the UK and internationally.” Rosy Greenlees, Executive Director, Crafts Council
I showcased the artwork, The Crufts Misfits and met the family who went on to commission the 3 meter portrait of their entire family. You can see this project in the Commissions section and see more of the artwork in the Gallery section.
